This conference aims to provide guidance and training on common issues identified within recent inspection reports to help meet the National Minimum Standards for boarding schools.

The training will cover all 20 standards relating to boarding schools:

  • Standard 1 – Statement of boarding principles and practice
  • Standard 2 – Boarders’ induction and support
  • Standard 3 – Boarders’ health and wellbeing
  • Standard 4 – Contact with parents/carers
  • Standard 5 – Boarding accommodation
  • Standard 6 – Safety of boarders
  • Standard 7 – Fire precautions and drills
  • Standard 8 – Provision and preparation of food and drinks
  • Standard 9 – Boarders’ possessions
  • Standard 10 – Activities and free time
  • Standard 11 – Child protection
  • Standard 12 – Promoting positive behaviour and relationships
  • Standard 13 – Management and development of boarding
  • Standard 14 – Staff recruitment and checks on other adults
  • Standard 15 – Staffing and supervision
  • Standard 16 – Equal opportunities
  • Standard 17 – Securing boarders’ views
  • Standard 18 – Complaints
  • Standard 19 – Prefects
  • Standard 20 – Lodgings (long-stay)


Course Leader: Dale Wilkins

Dale joined BSA during Summer 2017. After boarding positions at Norwich School and Tettenhall College, Dale became a Housemaster at Old Swinford Hospital in 1992, and was promoted to Deputy Head in 2007, and subsequently DSL also. He has also been a multi-agency trainer for the Dudley Safeguarding Children’s Board and has been closely involved in inspection in state and independent boarding since 2002.

Dale has been a BSA course tutor since 1998 and developed the BSA Self-Assessment toolkit. Dale leads on all safeguarding and inspection matters for BSA, including managing the BSA Commitment to Care Charter, annual Safeguarding Conference, leads the Safeguarding Forum, and all related training matters.

Representatives from these providers will be on hand to talk you through the benefits of these products and services so you can see the opportunities available to your school first-hand.

AMS Annual General Meeting

The Association of Muslim Schools (AMS) Shura Council gives notice that the 2018 Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held at 10.00am on Saturday 30 June 2018, at Madani Schools Federation, 77 Evington Valley Road, Leicester, LE5 5LL, for the following purposes:

  • To receive and consider the Annual Report of activities for the current academic year to date
  • To receive and consider the Financial Report of the Association for the financial year ended March 31 2018.
  • To elect four members to serve on the Shura Council as directors and trustees of the Association (3 year term).

All AMS member schools are invited to attend the 2018 Annual General Meeting. For the purposes of voting, schools can nominate one representative who will have the authority to cast votes on their behalf. If you wish your school to be represented at the AGM, please complete the form on this page. Up to two additional non-voting representatives may also attend the meeting.

The deadline for confirming AGM attendance is Friday 15 June 2018. Please note the AGM takes place at the same time as the moring session of the Boarding Schools’ Training.

AGM attendees will also have the opportunity to view and trial a number of new educational products and services courtesy of Innovate My School, a community-driven educational organisation that keeps teachers informed about the latest ideas and trends in education. Please see the poster below for more information.

The AGM and Innovate My School speed date is free to attend and lunch will be served following the session.

Booking terms and conditions:

  • Bookings are only confirmed when AMS has received a booking form and payment.
  • Early bird and group discounts only apply when payment has been received before the deadline.
  • All workshops have a limited capacity – once reached, no further bookings can be taken for that workshop. If, on the day, spaces become available due to cancellations, delegates may request to attend this workshop during registration.
  • Member discounts apply to schools who have paid their subscription for AMS membership and have no outstanding payments due. For more information about membership please click here.
  • Organisations who are not eligible for AMS membership (i.e. not a registered full-time day school with an Islamic ethos) can purchase a Service Pack and attend AMS events at member rates as well as enjoy a host of other benefits. Alternatively, you may attend the event as a non-member.


  • Bookings cancelled 29 days or more before the event date will be refunded in full.
  • Bookings cancelled 15 to 28 days before the event date will be refunded minus a £10.00 charge per ticket to cover administration costs.
  • Bookings cancelled 8 to 14 days before the event date be refunded minus a £20.00 charge per ticket to cover administration costs.
  • Bookings cancelled 7 days or less before the event date will not be refunded.
  • In the event workshops are cancelled, AMS will refund the full amount.
