General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Training

Course Leader: Steve Burnage

GDPR Training poster 01.05.2018

From May 2018, schools must comply with the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or face fines of 4% of their income. The implications are significant – both for areas such as staffing to meet the requirements and the impact on legacy IT systems. The Department of Education have issued some guidance which can be found by clicking here.

Please see the DfE video below for a detailed explanation.

This course will ensure that you are fully briefed on the implications for your institution and have a plan in place ready to implement on your return.

By the end of this course, participants will:

  • Build awareness of the new requirements in their schools
  • Conduct an information audit to establish what data you hold and how it is shared
  • Review your current processes around privacy, consent and individual rights
  • Have a clear process in place for preventing and managing data breaches
  • Build Privacy Impact Assessments into your everyday planning and management

Be GDPR compliant ahead of the game.

The GDPR is a regulation by which the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission intend to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union. The GDPR aims primarily to give control back to citisens and residents over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for organisations. When the GDPR takes effect, it will replace the data protection directive. The regulation was adopted on 27 April 2016 and becomes enforceable from 25 May 2018.
