Press Release – Statement regarding London schoolgirls travelling to Syria
The Association of Muslim Schools UK was shocked to learn of the three young schoolgirls from East London, who have flown to Turkey seemingly in order to cross over into Syria to join the terrorist group ISIS. We urge all schools and agencies that are responsible for the safeguarding of our young people to remain vigilant in the face of a worrying trend amongst impressionable youngsters who are brainwashed into leaving their families and communities in order to commit acts of violence abroad.
Our prayers and thoughts are with the devastated families of the three young girls and we hope for their safe return. Ashfaque Chowdhury, chairman of the Association, commented; “Now more than ever we need to engage with our young people and those at risk of being influenced by the poisonous and evil ideology of ISIS, which has no basis in Islam. Our young people need to understand in no uncertain terms that ISIS are the enemies of Islam and humanity. In particular the online threat that ISIS and its recruiters pose to young people needs to be understood, challenged and ultimately defeated.”
The Association would urge those with any information to call the free Anti-Terrorist Hotline number on 0800 789 321.
