Number Sense is the foundation of mathematical proficiency. It gives learners the fluidity and flexibility with numbers – having a sense of what numbers mean and be able to perform number operations. The best way to develop fluency with number is to encourage pupils to see and operate with numbers in different ways – not just blind memorisation.
