AMS Talent is an exciting new initiative for Muslim schools, focusing on nurturing and unlocking the potential of Muslim students through a dynamic program of national events centred around three key strands: Arts, Careers, and Active.
The AMS is committed to holding exclusive regional events, supporting our member schools across the UK.
Arts – Debate
21st November 2024- London
AMS, in collaboration with Debating For Everyone, will be offering students in Years 6 the opportunity to take part in a fun and informative introduction to debating.
Last year Debating For Everyone led a day’s introduction to debating for AMS secondary schools in the north west. This year they will be working with AMS primary schools in London.
Location: Al-Noor Voluntary Aided Primary School, 619-629 Green Lane, Ilford, Essex, IG3 9RP
Time: 8:30am – 4pm
Audience: Primary Year 6
Other: Each school MUST bring 3 individuals to participate. A maximum of 24 individuals, between 8 schools will be participating.
The day will cover:
An introduction to the basic debating skills:
- How to build a persuasive argument
- How to challenge other people’s arguments effectively
- How to plan and prepare for a debate
- How to express yourself clearly and persuasively
- How debates work
In the afternoon, all students will take part in a mini-competition, receiving feedback about their performance.
All students will receive certificates of attendance. Students from the top three teams in the competition will receive certificates, and the winning school will receive a trophy.
Debating For Everyone is an agency offering training and consultancy for debating and public speaking, founded and led by Julian Bell. From 2000 to 2021 Julian Bell was Head of English and Debating at Godolphin and Latymer School in London. In September 2021 he retired from teaching to devote himself full time to his passion for debating. He offers training in debating to students in prep, primary and secondary schools both in person and online across the UK, and overseas, including schools in Spain and the USA, as well as offering consultancy and training services for teachers. He also runs a number of debating competitions. He has helped over 30 schools set up debating programmes across the UK, the US and Spain.

This event will see our partner Murabiyoon Sports deliver the Murabiyyon Games for the first time in Birmingham.
Each day has been designed to provide Muslim students an opportunity to participate in a variety of sports. There will be a chance to compete head-to-head against other schools and for individuals to showcase their talent. Including a football tournament!
Sessions will be supported by organisations such as England Squash, Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), Muslim Golf Association (MGA), Archery England, Rugby Football Union (RFU) and England Schools Football Association (ESFA).

Time: 9am-3pm
Audience: Primary (Yr 5&6 only) and Secondary (All)
Other: The boys event will be held on the 9th July and girls event on the 10th July.
